http://dbaspot.com/ms-sqlserver/220023-sql-server-2005-express.html , as found here for 2005 the SQL Browser Server needs starting , but the following other connection need enabling as well

Under SQL Server Configuration Manager go to SQL Server Configuration

Choose Protocols for your Iris Database Instance e.g. SQL Express

Make Sure Shared Memory , Named Pipes and TCP/IP are set to enabled

You will also need to specifiy the port you should open on the server firewall so remote clients can connect, if you open TCP/IP , go to the IP Address Tab and enter a Dynamic Port for IPALL ( At the bottom ) default 1433

If you open the firewall and add 2 inbound Allow rules for the following

Create a new user through the SBS Console named BesAdmin. Make sure this user is ONLY a member of Domain users and the Built-in Administrators group.

  • Set the correct permissions for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Administrator account
    • Open the Domain Controller Security Policy by clicking Start->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Domain Controller Security Policy.
    • Navigate to the User Rights by Local Policies->User Rights Assignment.
    • Add the BesAdmin account to the Allow Log on Locally and Log on as a Service permissions. ( define the Allow Log on Locally policy for BesAdmin, you must also give the Administrators group this right.)

Grant Exchange View-Only Administrator permissions at the administrative group level.
    • In Exchange System Manager, right-click the first Exchange Server administrative group name, and then click Delegate Control.
    • Add the BesAdmin account as having the role of Exchange View-Only Administrator.
  • Grant Send As, Receive As, and Administer Information Store permissions at the server level for the Exchange Server.
    • In Exchange System Manager, expand the Servers group.
    • Right-click the Exchange Server, click Properties, and then click Security.
    • In the top pane, select the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service account. In the bottom pane, make sure that the Send As, Receive As, and Administer Information Store permissions are set to Allow.

  • Send as permissions for users
    • Open Active Directory Users and Computers.
    • Select the View menu and check the Advanced Features option.
    • Find the OU for all your SBS Users ( Usually SBSUsers)
    • Right-click the OU for which you are setting up the BlackBerry device, and click Properties.
    • On the Security tab select advanced, add the BesAdmin service account, use the drop down on the “Apply Onto” to choose “User Objects” and then click to select the “Send As” check box at the bottom

  • Install Software
    • Logoff and logon as BESadmin locally, you can do this through RDP , but you will need to add Besadmin as domain Admin for the right permissions
Install the BES software, normally you just install BlackBerry Enterprise Server as most sites don’t use the MDS services (MDS is a much heavier install). Follow the prompts of the install and the server will be required to restart half way through the install. Restart the server and log back on as BESadmin and the install will continue. (Make sure the Connect Test works and the SRP ID etc is validated during the install)

Task 4: Assign Users
1. Within Blackberry Manager click on you server name in the left column and then the users TAB in the centre section, just add a user and the click on that user. You will see all the users? properties and a drop down menu called Service Access? and select ?Set Activation Password? and set a password of ?a? for example.

2. Turn on you BlackBerry device and ensure Wireless is enabled. Go into ?Options/Settings? and ?Time & Date? and set the correct zone and time etc. Then from the home screen go to enterprise activation and enter the users email address and enter the password that was set in step 1. Press the track wheel and select Activate. Within a minute you should get data returned which indicates the process is functioning correct.

Possible Issues

Emails where not reconciling off the blackberry when deleted off Outlook

In the BlackBerry Administration Service, on the Servers and components menu, expand BlackBerry Solution topology > BlackBerry Domain > Component view > Email.
Click the instance that you want to change.
Click Edit instance.
On the Messaging tab, in the Messaging options section, in the Hard deletes reconciliation drop-down list, click True and set up Message state database size to 1000 and restart “Blackberry Dispatcher” Service or Reboot Server

On Handheld

On menu, reconciliation should be set up as “mailbox and hanheld”…..and should set up as “prompt”
checked the option of “hide filed emails”

After a router and internet connection change change a TGP 500 Voip System would not connect to the blueface.ie VOIP Service. On the same network a bunch of phones could connect to a VOIP system on Voicenet. On the TGP 500 the Orange Light flashed proving it was having issues connecting to the TFTP Server. I added port forward for every ports to the devices static IP to check if the inbound connection was the issue but still no success. I disabled SIP ALG on the router as this sometimes affects SIP however still no joy

I opened up the firewall to check the NAT sessions, and it only had one connected to the ISP’s DNS Server ( Zen ) so it was getting that far.

I changed the DNS server to Open DNS’s Servers: and , ( on the phone go to menu , IP Services , activated DHCP on the menu , then choose a Static DNS Server )

Rebooted the box and it worked straight away. Turns out the SRV record lookup on Zen’s DNS server was the issue …

Windows XP Fix

The HP Laserjet 2011 randomly starts crashing the print spooler in Windows XP. This is a problem with the driver and PDF’s that needs fixing using the following :

Delete the printer and remove it from the registry, in highlighted location.

Then reinstall printer using Laserjet 6 drivers.

 Windows 7 Fix

Extract the DLL files from the zip and paste them in the following location in Win 7 32bit.

Or if Win 7 64bit.

It should ask you to overwrite the existing ones, and that’s it.

After trying to renew an existing SSL Certificate with GoDaddy, I received the following email  :

“Dear Secure Certificate Customer,

Recently you requested a digital certificate for: [ remote.**DOMAIN REMOVED** .co.uk ]

We have anti-phishing filters in place to safe-guard our customers and digital certificate-relying parties. Our filters have selected your certificate for review by the Policy Action Committee.

To proceed, we will need 2 things.

1.) You will need to send proof of right documentation for the company that is applying for this certificate. Acceptable forms of proof of right documentation are listed below.

  • A copy of business license
  • State, County or City Sales Tax certificate
  • “Doing Business As” documentation
  • Fictitious Name documentation
  • Articles of Incorporation

2.) For SSL certificates, you will also need to provide a formal letter of the intended use of your site. Please make sure to include your name and signature on the document.

Please have the letter faxed to: 480.393.5009

Please let us know if we can help you in any other way.

If you encounter any problems or have any questions, our Customer Support department is ready to help, around-the-clock, seven days a week.

Customer Support:
E-Mail: ra@godaddy.com
Phone: 480.505.8852
Fax: 480.393.5009

For further information, log in to your account at https://certs.godaddy.com.”

Turns out GoDaddy has a filter with specific Keywords in the domain name which triggers this. The word in this case was Medical in the domain. The company was a UK Sole Trader so it did not have any of these documents.

To get this renewal from GoDaddy approved we had to email back a Scanned Letter with the intent of use with the following information , for anyone else needing to renew the domain :

We a S0le Trader based in xxxxx, United Kingdom practicing under the name “xxxxxxxxxx”. In the United Kingdom Sole Traders are not required to register with the government so we have no formal documentation regarding licensing or registration to do business.

Here is the link to prove this : http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/bdotg/action/detail?itemId=1073789606&type=RESOURCES

Our registered address is

And Telephone is : +44xxxxx xxxxx

Our intent for the SSL certificate for the domain in question : remote.xxxxx.co.uk is to use it to host our Small Business Server 2011 for Remote Web Workplace used achieved by this link

After GoDaddy Recieve this , you might need to give them a call , retell the customer services advisor the situation about how companies can operate in the UK without any of these , and they will go through and manually renew the certificate

As per title , the wordpress plugin Per Page Sidebars does not work when you enable a widget for 2 pages which have same names. I was building a site which had duplicate children page names for multiple parents.

I modified the plugin to register the widgets from PSS-Name-of-Page to PSS-Name-of-Parent-Name-of-Page

This enabled me to have multiple widgets for pages by the same name , and also an easy way to organise the widgets in the backend. Code modify in the per-page-sidebars.php file

When Exclaimer’s Mail Disclaimers Signature tool query’s active directory , it will sometimes cache the information for up to 2 hours. In a working environment, a User OU change or change to information such as a job title needs to be implemented faster that this.

To manually force an AD Refresh Restart the following Services in order :

  • – Exclaimer Mail Disclaimers Configuration Service ( It will also ask to restart 2 others if you accept and restart these as well )
  •  – Microsoft Exchange Transport Service

When logging into a terminal server it brings up the

“Your User Profile was not loaded correctly”

You have been logged on with a temporary profile

This could be caused by the following

1) If you are logging in using an active directory account, make sure the profile Tab in the Active Directory Settings under Users and Computers the Profile Path is set correctly

2) If the account is corrupted , log the user off and try and remove their account

i) By right clicking on My Computer , Advanced System Settings, Advanced, then User Profiles removing via here

ii) If the user is not displayed above ,

Delete the User’s Folder from C:\Users\*Username* ( Backup any data before )

Remove the Users Registry enteries from : HKLM\Software\WindowNT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

Then try logging in again

There is also a great tool called : https://helgeklein.com/free-tools/delprof2-user-profile-deletion-tool/ which can remove all old used , unimportant profiles

You have a wireless system in place however you would like to separate a guest wireless network using your existing infrastructure and separate internet connection

Equipment :

  • Router for Guest Internet E.g. Draytek 2820
  • Layer 2 Managed Switch for the VLANing
  • Netgear Wireless Controller E.G. Netgear WMS5316
  • Access Points to Work with the Wireless Controller

These can be changed , but for example , lets say the following has been done:

  • Draytek Plugs Into Port 5 on the Layer 2 Managed Switch
  • Wireless Controller Plugs into Port 23 on the Managed Switch
  • Access Points Plug into 6 – 8 on the Managed Switch

  • Create 2 VLANS on the Switch and Wireless Controller, Create 2 SSIDS and assign a VLAN ID to them e.g. VLAN 1 is the main company network and VLAN 2 is the Guest Network
  • On the Managed Switch UNTAG ALL Ports for VLAN 1
  • Tag Ports 6 – 8 ( Access Points ) and 23 ( Wireless Controller ) on VLAN 2 ( As these will need to access both VLAN for both wireless networks )
  • Untag Port 5 VLAN Port for VLAN 2
  • Set the PVID of port 5 to VLAN 2 ( Force VLAN 2 ONLY )
  • Settings on the draytek can be left as default as long as it’s got a working internet connection and DHCP enabled

Tagged means that the vlan information is added to the frame before it is sent over a trunk link.

Access ports are typically untagged, meaning only one vlan passes via the interface.

Custom Sage Reports e.g. ‘My SOP Reports’ by default are not stored in the location of all the other Sage Data in the Accounts Folder. You can change this setup however it does seem to effect performance accessing these over a network instead of locally. When setting up another local installation for sage ( accessing the company shared data over the network ), the following folder will store all your local report and these need copying from the computer where the reports where created after installation of sage is complete on the device :
