LightboxIt seems if you do not have a title value for hyperlink with Lightbox , Internet Explorer displays a null value for the default description Lightbox has released an update and the changelog fixes this error However if you are using a third party tool, where you cannot modify the main lightbox files , you can resolve this issue by setting the title flag yourself in the hyperlink to nothing e.g.

Adobe Acrobat 8 After trying to create a PDF by printing to the PDF Printer , I recieved this error “Adobe PDF creation cannot continue because Acrobat is not activated.” I choose help , then activate , but both activate and deactivate where greyed out. Upon investigation the FLEXnet Licensing Service service in Windows has been disabled and set to manual. Changing this back to automatic and starting the service fixed this problems

Excel Logo I had 4 XLA Files, that I need to roll out to multiple machines across a network. These XLA files needed to be installed in a certain order. I found some Visual Basic Scripting Code ( off AppDeploy.com ) to add the Add-In and Enable it ( Can do this manualy by going to Tools , Add ins ) On Error Resume Next Dim oXL Dim oAddin Set oXL = CreateObject("Excel.Application") oXL.Workbooks.Add Set oAddin = oXL.AddIns.Add("\\Network Path\NameOfXLAAddIn.xla", True) oAddin.Installed = True oXL.Quit Set oAddin = Nothing Set oXL = Nothing I saved this code in a .vbs file , and created a vbs file for each of the xla files that need installing. I then created a .bat file to run these in order. What I found was that only half of the XLA’s where being added to the machine. I checked in the local Add in’s directory ( C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Application Data\Microsoft\AddIns ) and the Addin’s wearn’t being copied from the server before being registered. I then added an xcopy function to the BAT file to copy the file manually before adding , and this resolved the issue xcopy "\\Server Path\Example.xla" "C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Application Data\Microsoft\AddIns" /y

Error: Action failed for registry key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows: creating registry key.… Error 0x80070005
There are 2 possible fixes to this. The first is to download some software AVG have wrriten to fix the issue from here Unzip the file and run the .bat file. If this still does not resolve your issue you will need to manually change the registery permissions Here’s how I fixed the problem…
  1. Open the registry editor ( Start , Run then type regedit) and navigate through the folders to the following key:  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows
  2. Right-click on the Windows key.
  3. Choose Permissions, then click Advanced.
  4. The first two entries should start with “Deny” pertaining to the “Everyone” group.
  5. Highlight the first entry and click Remove. Now remove the other “Deny” entry.
  6. Close the registry editor and try your un/installation again.

Vista Blue Screen of DeathAfter performing some windows updates on a Windows Server 2008 Datacenter box , I restarted the Virtual Machine to find a blue screen of death with the following error
File: \windows\system32\ntkrnlpa.exe Status: 0XC0000098 Info: Windows failed to load because the kernel is missing, or corrupt.
The machine wouldn’t boot into safe mode , after some more research this kernel file is used in Windows Vista. I copied the file from another Windows Server 2008 Datacenter boxVirtual Machine , and luckily the machine booted fine. Here’s a link to the file http://www.pariswells.com/upload/ntkrnlpa.rar

Red BlackberryUpon sending an SMS Message an error message is displayed “Short Message Transfer Rejected” with a red cross. This issue is displayed due to an error with the contact number you are trying to send to. E.g. I recently imported some number using Google Sync , and it wiped the first zero off the number. The only way round this is to fix the number in your contact list. Copy the text of the errored text message , delete the message , and recreate a new one with the contact ( with correct number ) and paste the message back

blackberry_enterprise_server After wiping a device and updating it to the lastest forware using blackberry desktop manager, the device didn’t register with the blasckberry network. Upon trying to register the device with the BES server a message is displayed “‘acquiring service connection” After a short wait the following is displayed ‘Activation Request Failed – Service Connection Is Unavailable’. This issue is down to the device not being able to connect to the 3G network. Usually confirmed by the top right of the blackberry screen having a lower case gprs instead of capitals ( GPRS ) If your device is definately on a data plan from the provider that supports blackberry and has been working before try this fix Perform a Hard Reset (pull the battery out WITHOUT turning the Blackberry off (VERY IMPORTANT THIS!)) Wait 5 seconds and put the battery back in and wait for the 3-5 mins until the device restarts If this is a new device and you are not sure if your service provider has enabled blackberry support on your data plan give them a call!
