After installing Kapersky Antivirus from fresh and trying to activate the product with a Key file , it came up with the following error “Activation error. Digital signature is either missing or corrupted” I redownloaded the key file and it still brought up the message. After looking on Kav Knowledge base , and looking to check if the Ask toolbar was installed (which it wasn’t). I unistalled Kapersky , Restarted the Computer and rinstalled. This resolved the problem!

I’ve been promoting a local business. Now the main task is to get the Google Places up as soon as possible. I also submit to as many local directories as possible! I performed this over a weekend and I was taken back how many calls I recieved the following Monday of people wanting to sell me premium membship to these directory sites. The phone call ususally goes along the lines of “Hows your website doing at the moment , is your website important to you, we can help you become top for your keyword etc etc” I just wanted to get down to the actual price figure like most sales calls, I was amazed at some of the prices being ask for by some of these companys e.g. Applegate : £500/Year City Visitor : £500/Year Qype : £250/ Month per country! Thompson : £300 for 1 Town and £360 2 Town Yell.com : £39 / Month for 6 Month Trial – ( They partner with google to get you up the listings!) I guess this is down to the fact how google ranks places listings first for local search , and submission to these directories via sponsored links can help your google places rankings!

Setting up a Draytek or your own router with Bethere or 02 is different from usual ISP’s. If your draytek’s show time is up and synced but your router is stuck on “Starting PPP” then “PPP Shutdown” when pressing Dial PPPoa , then you might want to try this : Instead of PPPoe/PPPoa Authentication , choose MPoA (RFC1483/2684) and enter the settings here. 1483 Bridged LLC is the right option with VPI: O and VCI: 101 ( You won’t need a username and password ) Settings from O2’s site are here  : http://www.o2help.co.uk/broadband-settings/

Recently a user had issues with Google Apps email. Emails stopped being downloaded to his machine randomly during the day. For example 2pm – 6pm emails just not  did download to Outlook via POP. Logging to Google Webmail showed the emails had actually arrived at Google so it was down to a pop error not mail transportation. I reset the POP counter by going into settings in Gmail and changing “Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on”. However this did not fix the issue. Upon further investigation with outlook and a look at the Add In’s that might be interfering with outlook , Incredimail was installed. Uninstalling this resolved the problem, so watch out installed 3rd Party Apps, I’ve also seen Smiley Central totally break the MAPI Protocol for Outlook!

When trying to connect a Windows 7 machine to a fully updated Microsoft Small Business Server 2008 you might get the error message “This computer does not meet the maximum operating system requirements for running client setup”. This is because you need to install Rollup 3 for Windows Small Business Server 2008. It should install off Windows Updates for but some reason sometimes needs to be done manually. To do this manually follow the steps
  • http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/

With XPSP3, the RDP plugin sometimes gets disabled by an update – there are 2 registry keys to delete which should fix it:
1. Open Regedit and find the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Settings 2. Within the Settings sub-key, delete the following sub-keys: {4eb89ff4-7f78-4a0f-8b8d-2bf02e94e4b2} {7390f3d8-0439-4c05-91e3-cf5cb290c3d0} Then reboot and try it again.

Microsoft has improved the Printer Redirection on Terminal Services in 2008 by Ultilising their own print driver called “Easy Print”. This means the specific printer driver doesn’t need to be installed locally on the server for the redirection to work. There are some minimum requirments for this to work:
  • The RDC 6.1 (6.0.6001) client supports Remote Desktop Protocol 6.1
  • At least Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1)
If you are using Windows Vista you will need to have Service Pack 1 Installed. If you are using Windows XP you will need to have Service Pack 3 installed. Windows 7 out the box supports this. This will fix any issues with the printer not being redirected on the Terminal Server. Sometimes with all this enabled, the printer being redirected, easy print will still have problems interfacing with the printer. If this is the problem , try the following : Turn Off Advanced Printing Features Log Off your Terminal Server Session ( To Remap the printer after ) On your local PC, you do the following: Go to Control Panel. Select Printers. Right-click on your Printerand choose Properties. This will bring up a window similar to the one below – select the “Advanced” tab. On the Advanced tab, uncheck the option that says “Enable Advanced Printing Features” Log Back onto the Terminal Server and try printing again Download Easy XML Update http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2431806

When an RDP session is opened from a shortcut it will be displayed on the last screen it was maximised and closed on. Sometimes you might want to change this and hard code it into the RDP File. If you create an RDP Configuration file ( Open up Remote Desktop and configure the settings and server address) Choose options and save the settings to a location. Open up the RDP file and depending on which screen ID you want it to open on add the following screen mode id:i:1  (Screen 1) screen mode id:i:1  (Screen 2) Save the file , and open it to run it on the select screen

Shutdown storage controllers and power-off the existing MSA. Connect the SAS cables to the output ports on the existing MSA and to the input ports (on the left if you’re looking at the back of the unit) on the expansion cabinet. (Remember to remove the tiny plastic tabs from both ends of the cables!). Power on the EXPANSION unit first! Wait for a couple of minutes for the controllers to init. Power on the MSA. Wait for the storage controllers to boot. Log into the web interface. You should see the new enclosure listed in the tree view. (the LED display on the expansion unit will change to “2” when it’s detected) Create a new RAID-10 virtual disk with hot spare, using the disks in the expansion unit. Create new volumes (and tick the “Map” box to assign LUNs) to fill the virtual disk (VMware can’t support volumes larger than 2TB). Power-on the hosts. Rescan storage controllers to locate the new LUNs. Go to Configuration -> Storage and Add Storage. It will detect the new LUNs and you can create datastores on each.
