Remote_desktop_connectionUpon trying to open up a remote application on a 2008 terminal server I am greeted with the following error:unable to open connection file.

This issue seems to be down to the file signing , if you have access to the terminal server , republish the file without signing and redeploy this. You can take out the signing manually by

  • Opening up the .rdp file in question with notepad
  • Find the line starting “signscope:s:” and delete any of the text on that line and after it. ( This removes the signing code )
  • Save the text file and try again

1219169973-hp-compaq-6515b-6715b-laptops[1]Recently after upgrading my Compaq 6715p Laptop to Windows 7 from Windows XP, everytime my laptop came out of Standby or Hibernation it locked up, and the only way to unlock it was to hard reset the laptop with its power button. My Laptop has a X1200 Radeon Mobile Graphics Card. After trying to upgrade to the latest driver version , I found I couldn’t find the drivers for the X1200 on the ATI’s Site After some research I found that you can download and install the x1050 and the x1300 Drivers for this card. Upon installing these it fixed the issue

514450MGFZL._SL500_AA240_[1]The default Data paths have changed at Sage 2008 and 2009 . These are now set depending on the OS. NB – In pre Sage 2008 versions the Company file was in the Sage Program Folder. The actual data would be in a subfolder of the Program Folder i.e. C:\Program Files\Sage 2007\Accounts Windows Vista and Windows 7 – Data is in -> C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\2008 Windows XP – Data is in -> C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sage\Accounts\2008\ Sage uses a COMPANY file with no file extensions to reference data paths for your sage folders E.G. S:\COMPANY.001 To Reset Sage and to get it start the open company wizard , close sage and delete this COMPANY file This site has a loads of top tips on Sage

Belkin Network 5-Port USB2.0 Hub - F5L009UK

Click on the Image to Buy Belkin Network 5-Port USB2.0 Hub - F5L009UK

UPDATE Since this post was written , Vmware have included USB passthrough in its most recent version 4.1 http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1022290 The VMware Virtulised Operating systems ESXi and ESX do not support USB passthrough. VMware has stopped USB passthrough, as ESX was designed for VMotion. You can migrate Virtual Machines between physical servers and no one will notice. USB will prevent this, since VM is locked to physical USB port. This brings a problem for Small Business’ when it comes down to their backup solutions. Large Enterprises will use SCSI or SAN which are compatible with VMotion. Luckily this problem has been resolved using a device from Belkin. The Belkin Network 5-Port USB2.0 Hub maps up to 5 USB devices over a normal TCP/IP network for you. Installation is simple and once installed on a machine will immediately detect the plug and play devices connected to the HUB This device will also solve issues with servers needing to access USB Dongles with hardware keys on them for anti piracy reasons as seen here The cheapest I could find was one on Amazon for £52 including free postage Belkin Network 5-Port USB2.0 Hub Belkin Network 5-Port USB2.0 Hub - F5L009UK This is proven working with an average transfer rate of 30mb/s

Sata Native ModeI was reinstalling Windows XP on a laptop , Upon loading the Serial ATA Drivers ( Via a floppy during setup ) and running the installation I was asked “insert the disk labeled Intel Application Accelerator driver into drive A” The Intel Application Accelerator driver uses AHCI for Native Hot Plugging a drive , which is something you are not going to hopefully need while installing windows. To stop this error message coming up I went into the BIOS and disabled AHCI for the windows Installation If this is not an option for you, you might have to go ahead and create another floppy with the needed intel application accelerator driver! 14-wxp-boot3[1] Here is a RAR file with all the needed drivers Details on how to yourself : http://download.intel.com/support/chipsets/imst/sb/manual45_oem.pdf

Adventure-Works_lg[1] When a Small Business User logs into Remote Web Workplace on a Small Business Server 2008, when trying to login to one of the computers he might be greated with “No computers are available” in Remote Web Wokplace for SBS 2008 This is down the the fact the user does not have any computers setup for him/her on the server. To setup some computers. Login to the server , open the Windows SBS Console , Open the Users and Groups tab. Open up the user in question Go to the computer Tab , then tick the box “Can Remotely access this computer” on the computers you wish to make available to the user. Setting the user as Local Administrator on these computers through this screen will automatically tick the “Can Remotely access this computer” box and grey it out.
