Posted by paris on Jul 29, 2017 in Networking

Find the latest Firmware : https://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=284846029&softwareid=282046477&release=3.3.0SE&flowid=45549

Setup TFTP Server ( Download : http://tftpd32.jounin.net/tftpd32_download.html )

Copy Bin file to TFTP Directory

3650-SW1#copy tftp flash

3650-SW1#Address or name of remote host []? 10.1.1.250
3650-SW1#Source filename []? cat3k_caa-universalk9.SPA.03.06.06.E.152-2.E6.bin
3650-SW1#Destination filename [cat3k_caa-universalk9.SPA.03.03.01.SE.150-1.EZ1.bin]?<enter>

3850-SW1#software install file flash:cat3k_caa-universalk9.SPA.03.06.06.E.152-2.E6.bin switch 1-4

The install should ask you to reload which will restart the whole stack ( All Stack members should run the same IOS )

If the SSH console disconnects during the install progress you will need to do an Manual Reload Command

the type 11 controller is not supported by this firmware

Posted by paris on Oct 6, 2016 in Research

dell51

Was recently trying to update a PS6000 SAN from Firmware upgrade Failure from V5.0.8 to V6.0.7

FYI when trying firmware updates make sure you have the passive controller setup , as this will take the controllers offline during the update.

The error displayed was the type 11 controller is not supported by this firmware

Upgrade your 5.0.8 to 5.2.x first and than to 6.0.7.

RDP not working after upgrading from Standard to Enterprise using DCIM and KMS

Posted by paris on Dec 8, 2015 in Random

MacRDPClient[1]Recently upgraded a 2008 R2 Server to Enterprise from Standard using

 Dism /online /Set-Edition:ServerEnterprise /ProductKey:xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx

Wouldn’t work with the customers Volume License Enterprise Key. I used the KMS key which did work and activated using the Volume license key again , however on restart the server could not be remote desktoped in.

I had to run a

SLMGR /REARM

Restart the server and reactivate it using the proper Volume license key. After this , restarting the Remote Desktop Service enabled RDP to work again

You should check in the Computer settings , that the memory is not set to 4GB Usable out of the new memory allowance. If this is the case you will need to do the following

  1. Open the command prompt and change working directory to System32 directory
  2. Type in slmgr.vbs -ckms (this clears and KMS entry you may have)
  3. Type slmgr.vbs -upk (this removes any product key installed)
  4. Type slmgr.vbs -ipk xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx (where the x’s is the new product key you want to use )
  5. Type slmgr.vbs -ato (this activates the server)
  6. Restart Server

Upgrading Firmware on a HP Switch 5406zl(J8697A)

Posted by paris on Mar 7, 2013 in Research

J8699ARecently a HP 5406 Switch randomly crashed in the middle of a working day. A reboot fixed this however , we wanted to update the firmware from V12.16 to the latest version  K.15.09.0012, ROM K.15.28

The link to the latest firmware is here :

https://h10145.www1.hp.com/Downloads/SoftwareReleases.aspx?ProductNumber=J8697A&lang=en&cc=us&prodSeriesId=1827663

After backing up all the config, We downloaded the K.15.09.0012 firmware to start with. These switches have Primary and Secondary firmwares which allows some fault tollerence when it comes to an upgrade. If the Primary firmware fails it will switch to secondary so you can reflash

Upon trying to upload the K.15.09.0012, ROM K.15.28 via the web interface , it error-ed on Internet Explorer and Firefox with no immediate error. The next method we tried was a Telnet Firmware Upgrade , a bit more long winded.

We setup a TFPT server to be able to download the

Just download this free TFTP Server tool and setup defaults and copy the firmware to C;\TFPT ( or your default location )

Next we telneted into the Switch , and used the Command Menu to bring up the Switch Menu

We then went to Download OS , entered the TFTP IP of the PC with the file and the file name , and it brought back

Aborted, File Error

OK so the switch is bouncing back the file , probably because it’s referencing something with the current version ( The web interface should of been nice and told us this! )

After checking the ReadMe for the 15 upgrade , we found the following :

(BootROM K.12.12 – K.12.14)  Update and reload into software version K.13.58 or K.13.68

So we updated to K.13.68 (for BootROM updates only) via telnet which worked , and then updated to K.15.09.0012, ROM K.15.28
