I logged in with an account that was already Security Administrator , per this guide Role groups – Microsoft Defender for Identity | Microsoft Learn

This made me Defender for Identity administrator

However I could not see Indetities in the Settings dashboard of Defender

I needed to add myself to the Azure ATP Administrators Group in Azure AD
