Recently I was troubleshooting a Laptop that had Tamper Protection Off and I could not enable this due to “managed by administrator”

I double checked and the device only had the free defender …. devices must be onboarded to Microsoft Defender for Endpoint for Taper Protection to work !

Follow through the guide here and make sure you can search for the device in Defender
