Joining Windows 7 to SBS 2008

Posted by paris on Feb 9, 2011 in Fixes
When trying to connect a Windows 7 machine to a fully updated Microsoft Small Business Server 2008 you might get the error message “This computer does not meet the maximum operating system requirements for running client setup”. This is because you need to install Rollup 3 for Windows Small Business Server 2008. It should install off Windows Updates for but some reason sometimes needs to be done manually. To do this manually follow the steps
  • http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/
  • Install the Active X Control
  • Search for “rollup 3″
  • Find “Update Rollup 3 for Windows Small Business Server 2008 (KB969121)”
  • Add To Basket and Download to Server
  • Extraxt, Install and Restart

“No computers are available” in Remote Web Wokplace for SBS 2008

Posted by paris on Oct 16, 2009 in Research
Adventure-Works_lg[1] When a Small Business User logs into Remote Web Workplace on a Small Business Server 2008, when trying to login to one of the computers he might be greated with “No computers are available” in Remote Web Wokplace for SBS 2008 This is down the the fact the user does not have any computers setup for him/her on the server. To setup some computers. Login to the server , open the Windows SBS Console , Open the Users and Groups tab. Open up the user in question Go to the computer Tab , then tick the box “Can Remotely access this computer” on the computers you wish to make available to the user. Setting the user as Local Administrator on these computers through this screen will automatically tick the “Can Remotely access this computer” box and grey it out.
