{"id":770,"date":"2011-11-12T01:13:59","date_gmt":"2011-11-12T01:13:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pariswells.com\/blog\/?p=770"},"modified":"2011-11-12T01:13:59","modified_gmt":"2011-11-12T01:13:59","slug":"accdb-not-a-valid-win32-application","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pariswells.com\/blog\/fixes\/accdb-not-a-valid-win32-application","title":{"rendered":".accdb not a valid win32 application"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pariswells.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/notavalid32.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-771 img-responsive\" title=\"notavalid32\" src=\"http:\/\/pariswells.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/notavalid32-300x94.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"94\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pariswells.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/notavalid32-300x94.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pariswells.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/notavalid32.jpg 352w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Recently after trying to set file associations for a .accdb file ( Access 2007 \/ 2010 file type ) , when trying to open an .accdb file it would display the .accdb &#8220;is not a valid Win32 Application&#8221;.<\/p>\r\n<p>When trying to right click on the file and choose &#8220;open with&#8221; and find the MSACCESS.exe executable in C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Office\\Office 14 ( 2010) Office12 ( 2007\\ it would still display the same error message. If you opened Access up and went to file open , and find the file manually it would open the file correctly. The issue is the file associations are set in Explorer , so you have to reset the file associations, then restart explorer for them to work.<\/p>\r\n<p>Go to Regedit and deleted the following key : HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Explorer\\FileExts\\.accdb<\/p>\r\n<p>Then download this , and run it :<\/p>\r\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pariswells.com\/upload\/fixaccdbfileassoc.zip\">http:\/\/www.pariswells.com\/upload\/fixaccdbfileassoc.zip<\/a><\/p>\r\n<p>Now go to CTRL ALT Delete , Task Manager , Find Explorer.exe under processes, End the process. Then go to File and Run and type in Explorer.exe and press enter. You should now be able to open your .accdb files.
