{"id":5964,"date":"2022-08-07T00:49:19","date_gmt":"2022-08-07T00:49:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pariswells.com\/blog\/?p=5964"},"modified":"2022-08-07T00:49:19","modified_gmt":"2022-08-07T00:49:19","slug":"ups","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pariswells.com\/blog\/research\/ups","title":{"rendered":"UPS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">I found this mildly interesting, I always wondered why some UPS\u2019s are very expensive for not a big kva rating.<\/p><p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><b>Offline UPS<\/b>, don\u2019t even look at these, they are no good when looking to protect computer equipment due to their slow transfer time.\u00a0<i>The computer will turn off\u00a0<\/i><i>?<\/i><\/p><p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><b>Line-interactive UPS:<\/b>\u00a0This is the standard server room UPS, good transfer times and low cost<\/p><p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The biggest negatives are its ability to regulate the output voltage, a line interactive UPS will output \u00b18-15% of the nominal voltage in Australia supply systems and electrical installations are; 230\/400v +10% &#8211; 6%<\/p><p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">See AS\/NZS3000:200 1.8.2C(a) reference below;<\/p><p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Also proof 230v and 3 phase 400v is\u00a0<i><u>LOW VOLTAGE<\/u><\/i><\/p><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"641\" height=\"327\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5967  img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/pariswells.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/img_62ecc28d90971.png\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pariswells.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/img_62ecc28d90971.png 641w, https:\/\/pariswells.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/img_62ecc28d90971-300x153.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 641px) 100vw, 641px\" \/><\/p><p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The line-interactive UPS, 9 times out of 10 will be perfectly fine.<\/p><p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Checking a random server specifications you can see all power supply units come with their own tolerances to operate, this is the same for all suppliers to save them changing units where they ship them around the world for different (inferior) local supply voltages.<\/p><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1636\" height=\"1000\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5968  img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/pariswells.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/img_62ecc28db1307.png\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pariswells.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/img_62ecc28db1307.png 1636w, https:\/\/pariswells.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/img_62ecc28db1307-300x183.png 300w, https:\/\/pariswells.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/img_62ecc28db1307-1024x626.png 1024w, https:\/\/pariswells.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/img_62ecc28db1307-768x469.png 768w, https:\/\/pariswells.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/img_62ecc28db1307-1536x939.png 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1636px) 100vw, 1636px\" \/><\/p><p class=\"x_MsoNormal\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">This ALL means a line-interactive UPS installed on an Australian power grid\u00a0<i>should<\/i> be sufficient for most installs.
