How to Configure Promoted Links<\/strong><\/p>

Promoted Links are very useful and frequently used features in SharePoint. By using the prompted links, users can display links as icons or tiles on the web page.<\/p>

This document covers the bellow points;<\/p>

  1. Add a Promoted Link App<\/li>
  2. Add Items to a Promoted Links App<\/li>
  3. Edit Items in an existing Promoted Links APP<\/li>
  4. Add a Promoted Links App<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>

    If you want to use a SharePoint Promoted Links in your web site, Promoted Links App should be added first in to the site.<\/p>

    Click on \u201cAdd an app\u201d option in SharePoint Online menu.<\/p>

    <\/p>

    Click on \u201cPromoted Links\u201d tile in \u201cApps you can add\u201d section. Give it a name for the new Promoted Link list and hit create.<\/p>

    This will create a new Promoted Links list and you can find it in \u201cSite Contents\u201d area.<\/p>

    1. Add Items to Promoted Links App<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>

      Click on the newly created Promoted Link list in \u201cSite Contents\u201d section. Click on \u201cAll Promoted Links\u201d link or click \u201cList\u201d from the top ribbon.<\/p>

      If you clicked on \u201cList\u201d, select \u201cAll Promoted Links\u201d option from \u201cCurrent View\u201d dropdown.<\/p>

      <\/p>

      User will be redirected to \u201cAdd Items\u201d mode in the newly created Promoted Link list.<\/p>

      Hit \u201cnew item\u201d to add a promoted link.<\/p>

      Fill the next form with the necessary details that you want to display in the Promoted Links tile. Following are the parameters in the form;<\/p>

      Title: When a page is rendered, this will be displayed as the default tittle in the link.<\/p>

      Background Image Location: This is the image location for the background image. It is recommended to upload background images to the user\u2019s SharePoint site and copy the URL from there to fill this field in.<\/p>

      Description: This will be displayed when a user takes the mouse over the Promoted Links tile.<\/p>

      Link Location: This is the redirection URL.<\/p>

      Launch Behavior: Users can specify how the new page should be opened.<\/p>

      Order: This is an integer filed that specifies the order of the tiles in Promoted Links App.<\/p>

      1. Edit Items in an existing Promoted Links App<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>

        Go to \u201cSite Contents\u201d and click on the \u201cPromoted Links\u201d list that you want to do the modification.<\/p>

        If the items are displayed in \u201cTiles\u201d view, go through the \u201cList\u201d tab in the ribbon and get the items changed into \u201cAll Promoted Links\u201d view.<\/p>

        Click on the \u201cEdit\u201d icon of the item that you want to modify. If the \u201cEdit\u201d icon is not available, click the item and select \u201cEdit Item\u201d from the \u201cITEMS\u201d tab in the top ribbon.<\/p>

        Change the details as you wish and it \u201cSave\u201d to complete the modifications.<\/p>

        For example; if you want to change the background image of the link;<\/p>

        Upload the images in to \u201cSite Assets\u201d (Can be found in \u201cSite Contents\u201d section) library of the site collection.<\/p>

        Click on the image that you uploaded. Click on \u201cCopy link\u201d button. Then click on \u201cCopy\u201d button.<\/p>
