{"id":2302,"date":"2016-12-20T23:51:52","date_gmt":"2016-12-20T23:51:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pariswells.com\/blog\/?p=2302"},"modified":"2017-02-14T19:51:12","modified_gmt":"2017-02-14T19:51:12","slug":"hp-vmware-6-5-psod","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pariswells.com\/blog\/random\/hp-vmware-6-5-psod","title":{"rendered":"HP Vmware 6.5 &#8211; PSOD"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"TTEhBbj\"><a href=\"http:\/\/pariswells.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/img_5859c3f99be85.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-2303 size-thumbnail img-responsive\" src=\"http:\/\/pariswells.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/img_5859c3f99be85-150x150.png\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p><p>Recently installed\u00a0<strong>VMware-ESXi-6.5.0-OS-Release-4564106-HPE-650.9.6.0.28-Nov2016.iso\u00a0<\/strong>after installing the lastest support HP Firmware :\u00a0871790_001_spp-2016.10.0-SPP2016100.2016_1015.191.iso<\/p><p>On a G8 Proliant server , upon Vmotioning servers onto the box 5 minutes after the install, I got a purple screen of death<\/p><p><strong>Contacted Vmware<\/strong><\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">This PSOD is a known issue with the HP Hardware server in ESXi 6.5.<br \/> <br \/>This is still under investigation and VMware Engineering Team is aware of this issue.<br \/> <br \/>The \u00a0Primary suspect is the hp-ilo driver failing to unlock the resources before attempting to lock again which is causing a deadlock situation.<br \/> <br \/>Recommendations:<\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">To contact HP Hardware Support to see if they have any workaround for this issue.<\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">We will get back to you when VMware Engineering Team has a fix\/workaround on this issue.<\/p><p><em>Ask to see the KB<\/em><\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">This particular KB is internal only, currently we do not have a public version as VMware and HP are working together on this issue.<\/p><p><strong>Contacted HP<\/strong><\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">HP saw nothing wrong with the Hardware or iLO wanted to replace motherboard.<\/p><p>I&#8217;ve had this before this is their go to if they don&#8217;t know what&#8217;s wrong<\/p><p>&nbsp;<\/p><p>This looks to be a common theme :\u00a0<\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/communities.vmware.com\/message\/2632536\">https:\/\/communities.vmware.com\/message\/2632536<\/a><\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/communities.vmware.com\/message\/2633912\">https:\/\/communities.vmware.com\/message\/2633912<\/a><\/p><p>    <blockquote class=\"reddit-card\" >      <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/homelab\/comments\/5dh8wf\/will_esxi_65_work_on_hp_gen6_servers\/?ref_source=embed&amp;ref=share\">Will ESXi 6.5 work on HP Gen6 servers?<\/a> from      <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/homelab\/\">homelab<\/a>    <\/blockquote>    <script async src=\"https:\/\/embed.redditmedia.com\/widgets\/platform.js\" charset=\"UTF-8\"><\/script><\/p><p>&nbsp;<\/p><p>The fix at the moment is to install the Vailla\u00a0version of 6.5 ( without HP drivers ) which stops Vmware on reporting the hardware or to roll back to 6.0 UP 2 ( which is a reinstall!
